Pan America™ 1250 Special

The Pan America™ 1250 is a relatively new addition to the Harley-Davidson® lineup. It’s a dual-purpose motorcycle, which are also known as adventure motorcycles or ADV bikes. In fact, the brand named this new family of H-D® motorcycles Adventure Touring, which reflects the model’s dual-purpose nature but also that this is very much a tourer as well and can be loaded out as such. The 2023 Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ 1250 Special is fundamentally the same bike, but there are two key differences. The first is that it’s available in a range of premium colors, and the second is an adaptive suspension.

Performance & Ride Characteristics

As mentioned, the 2023 Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ 1250 Special is an ADV bike, which means that it performs just as well on-road as a standard motorcycle and just as well off-road as a dirt bike. This is a goal that has proved elusive to motorcycle manufacturers, and while the Pan America™ 1250 isn’t the only adventure bike on the market, it truly is one of a kind. All models are powered by a Revolution® Max engine that is liquid cooled and delivers 150 horsepower. This model also supports selectable ride modes that let you shape riding dynamics based on the current conditions. There are five preprogrammed modes—Road, Sport, Rain, Off-Road, Off-Road Plus—and one mode that you can program yourself.

Pan America™ 1250 Special vs Pan America™ 1250

The big difference between these models is that the 2023 Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ 1250 Special has a semi-active suspension that adjusts based on the position of the suspension, speed, throttle, brake torque, roll angle, roll rate and so forth. It also has a vehicle loading control system that senses the weight of the rider and passenger and automatically adjusts the suspension accordingly. This upgrade is well worth it for riders who’ll push their ADV bikes off-road, and it’s important to note that this isn’t an option that you can add after the fact.
