Road Glide®
The Road Glide® is one of the most popular models in Harley-Davidson®’s Grand American Touring family. Many touring enthusiasts consider it to be the benchmark for long-distance touring bikes, and defining characteristics include a frame-mounted fairing, an upright riding position, floorboards, a passenger seat, saddlebags, an infotainment system and optional rider-assistance technologies. In addition to the standard model, Harley-Davidson® offers a number of enhanced models. These include the Road Glide® Special, Road Glide® Limited, CVO Road Glide® and CVO Road Glide® Limited, and the newest addition to these options is the 2022 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® ST, which is a performance bagger.
Road Glide® vs. Street Glide®
Before we dig into the new Road Glide® ST, let’s touch on one of the most common questions we get from new Harley-Davidson® enthusiasts as there is a Street Glide® ST available as well. The main difference is that the Road Glide® has a frame-mounted fairing—also known as the sharknose fairing—whereas the Street Glide® models have a fork-mounted fairing, which is also known as the batwing. If you do not know which you prefer, then we highly recommend test-riding both of the new ST models.
Introducing the Road Glide® ST
Many of the enhanced models that Harley-Davidson® offers reflect customization trends among enthusiasts, and this is certainly the case with the ST. There is a current trend toward performance baggers, and many riders in and near Homosassa Crystal River Spring Hill who own a Road Glide® have invested in stage kits to increase the power of their motorcycles. The ST differs from the other Road Glide® models in that it comes standard with the Milwaukee-Eight® 117 engine, and you can experience that additional power when you test-ride the 2022 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® ST in New Port Richey.
Ride Characteristics
Outside of the additional performance, the characteristics of the ST are the same as the standard model. This is a motorcycle with a sport touring profile. It puts the rider in an upright riding position and features floorboards and an enhanced suspension for comfort over great distances. It has the sharknose fairing, stretched saddlebags, a passenger seats and a sophisticated infotainment system.
Performance
The Milwaukee-Eight® 117 is the biggest and most powerful engine that Harley-Davidson® currently makes. When it was first introduced, it was typically only available via the CVO models, but there is such demand for the additional power that Harley-Davidson® has introduced a slew of new models for 2022 that feature it. The 117 V-Twin is an air- and oil-cooled engine that makes 126 pound-feet of torque at 3,750 rpm.
Boom!™ Box Infotainment
The Road Glide® ST features the Boom!™ Box GTS infotainment system with a color touch screen, two fairing-mounted speakers and a hidden radio antenna. The 6.5-inch touch screen features Corning Gorilla Glass. Both Android Auto and Apple Car Play are supported. It also features a USB connection, Bluetooth and a wide range of personalization options.
Rider Safety Enhancements
Standard rider-assistance technologies include an anti-lock braking system and electronic linked braking, and these features are now standard across the Grand American Touring family. You also have the option of Rider Safety Enhancements. These assists help you to maintain traction when accelerating, decelerating and braking in less-than-ideal riding conditions. They also include features like tire pressure monitoring and hill hold control. Note that RSE is factory-installed option only.
