The Street Glide® is one of the most iconic and popular touring motorcycles ever developed, and it is widely considered the standard by which all other long-distance touring bikes are measured. Part of the charm of the Street Glide® for many enthusiasts is that it is stripped down. But there are also many touring fans who want a more loaded touring experience, which is why Harley-Davidson® offers the Street Glide® Special, the new Street Glide® ST and the premium CVO™ Street Glide®.
Street Glide® vs. Road Glide®
In addition to the 2022 Harley-Davidson® CVO™ Street Glide®, you have the option of the CVO™ Road Glide® and CVO™ Road Glide® Limited. There are, of course, aesthetic differences, but the main fundamental difference is that the Street Glide® models have a fork-mounted fairing and the Road Glide® models have a frame-mounted fairing. That choice does affect handling. How much is a matter of some debate, and we recommend that newer riders who are unsure of their preference test-ride both styles.
What Makes a CVO™
CVO™ stands for Custom Vehicle Operation. Each CVO™ model is unique to the model year for which it was designed. Harley-Davidson® designs them as factory custom motorcycles that showcase the brand’s engineering and design, and they feature special finishes and often exclusive components.
Introducing the CVO™ Street Glide®
Harley-Davidson® builds the CVO™ Street Glide® as the pinnacle of factory-custom touring style and comfort, and it markets it as loaded with premium everything. This is a motorcycle designed for the long-distance touring enthusiast who wants top performance and showstopping style.
Aesthetics
CVO™ bike are limited to a small number of designs that have been tailored to that particular model. In the case of the CVO™ Street Glide®, you have three options. The Hightail Yellow Pearl option features a chrome aesthetic with a paint scheme that pairs yellow and black with gray highlighting. Envious Green Fade, on the other hand, has a blacked-out aesthetic with black flames overlaying a green base. Blue Steel features a gunmetal finish that pairs wonderfully with as solid blue paint job.
Ride Characteristics
The 2022 Harley-Davidson® CVO™ Street Glide® in New Port Richey features a refined suspension for maximum comfort over long distances. It has an upright riding position, floorboards, a passenger seat, saddlebags, an infotainment system and, of course, the iconic batwing fairing.
Performance
A main difference between most CVO™s and the models that they are based on is the Milwaukee-Eight® 117 engine, which is the biggest and most powerful engine that Harley-Davidson® currently makes. The standard Street Glide®, for instance, has the Milwaukee-Eight® 107, and the Street Glide® Special has the Milwaukee-Eight® 114. Prior to this year, the CVO™ was the only way to get the Milwaukee-Eight® 117 with the Street Glide®. However, Harley-Davidson® has now introduced the Street Glide® ST.
Boom!™ Box Infotainment
The CVO™ Street Glide® features the Boom!™ Box infotainment system as standard equipment. The centerpiece of this system is a 6.5-inch color HD touch screen made with Gorilla Glass. It features a navigation system along with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and a USB port.
Rider Safety Enhancements
An anti-lock braking system and electronic linked braking are standard across the Grand America Touring platform and thus included with the CVO™ Street Glide®. Harley-Davidson® does not include the other rider safety enhancements in order to keep the price down for riders who don’t want them. This includes dynamic traction control, tire pressure monitoring and hill hold control.
