Last year was exciting for Harley-Davidson® enthusiasts for a number of reasons, but chief among them had to be the introduction of the all-new Sportster® S. The Sportster continues be the longest-running model in the H-D® lineup. It was first introduced in the mid-1950s, and it does not get updated often. In fact, the last major update was in the mid-1980s, which is more than three decades ago. Riders love their Sportster® S just the way it is. Of course, with time comes innovations, and there comes a point where Harley-Davidson® has to integrate them without losing what makes the model so beloved. That is what the 2021 edition was all about. The core elements remained—a stretched-out riding orientation, stunning style and peak performance—but Harley-Davidson® introduced a new infotainment system and added a suite of factory-installed rider-assistance technologies as an option for this legendary sport bike.
Updates for the 2022 Model
The 2021 model year Sportster went over well with enthusiasts and professional reviewers alike. In keeping with the Sportster tradition, few people expected any major changes for the 2022 Harley-Davidson® Sportster® S in New Port Richey, and that is the case. The Revolution Max 1250T engine remains the same. The stretched riding position and forward foot controls are the same as well. Harley-Davidson® still includes a 4-inch LCD screen as standard equipment and gives you the option of the advanced rider-assistance technologies. ABS, traction control and cornering safety enhancements are standard. There are some minor detailing tweaks, but the only real notable change are new colors. In addition to Vivid Black, which is the default, you now have the option of White Sand Pearl and Mineral Green Metallic.
Performance
The Sportster® S is a performance motorcycle and in fact sits atop Harley-Davidson®’s relatively new Sport family. It is powered by a Revolution Max 1250T engine, which is liquid cooled with variable valve timing and double overhead camshafts. The T stands for torque, and this particular configuration provides high torque and an immediate powerband, which have both been tuned for greater rider control. The Sportster® S also features a high-mount exhaust, which is made from 304-series stainless steel and has been inspired by the exhaust setups used for H-D® flat-track racing. The Sportster® S also supports four riding modes. Three are preprogrammed: Sport, Road and Rain. The fourth is a custom mode that lets you dial in various aspects of the riding dynamics based on where and how you like to ride.
