Harley-Davidson® Road King®
The Road King® is part of the Harley-Davidson®’s Grand American Touring family, and it remains one of the most popular models among H-D® enthusiasts. This is a motorcycle designed and refined for riders who want to navigate their bikes long distances and for long periods at a time. Comfort and control are paramount when touring, and this model delivers on both fronts. The Road King® oozes with classic Harley-Davidson® charm, and it is more of a stripped-down bagger than other H-D® models. Many riders prefer the stripped-down aesthetic, and others like the stripped-down nature because it provides more of a blank canvas to customize their bagger to their individual needs and preferences.
Updates for 2022
The touring machines that arrived in the first wave have received refinements but no major changes. Perhaps the most notable update is that all of these baggers now have Reflex linked Brembo brakes, which are able to dynamically adjust front and rear brake balance. The new Road King® Special arrives alongside the standard 2022 Harley-Davidson® Road King® in New Port Richey. There are two main differences between the models. The standard model has the Milwaukee-Eight® 107 V-Twin engine and a traditional chrome aesthetic. The Special has the Milwaukee-Eight® 114 V-Twin engine and the more modern blacked-out aesthetic. The Special also a different headlamp and different wheels.
As mentioned, the Road King® comes standard with the Milwaukee-Eight® 107 engine. This is a powerful and smooth-running powertrain that delivers crisp throttle response and the rumble that Harley-Davidson® fans love. This is plenty of performance for most riders, but if you are an enthusiast that wants more, the Special is an intriguing alternative. It comes standard with the more powerful Milwaukee-Eight® 114 engine. That means that your motorcycle rolls off the production line with more power and that you also have more headroom available to you if ever opt to install a stage kit. Note that both the standard and Special models offer rider safety enhancements as an option, and if you want this optional tech, you have to choose it at the time of purchase. It is not available after the fact.
The Ideal Motorcycle For...
As Harley-Davidson® puts it in its marketing, the 2022 Harley-Davidson® Road King® in New Port Richey is the right bike for the rider who wants to burn through miles with authority. This is a motorcycle built for the rider who rides often and who rides far. The standard model provides the more classic Harley-Davidson® aesthetic and is available in three color options. The Special model provides the more modern blacked-out Harley-Davidson® aesthetic and is available in three color options as well. In both cases, this is a great bike for riders who want to customize their bagger. The standard model does come more stripped down, but all of the same accessories are available for both models.
